About Me

My Story

My journey as a designer began as a middle school teacher in Houston, TX. Following college, I joined Teach for America, where I quickly learned that a memorable classroom lesson is designed, not thrown together. Through scoping and sequencing, unit and lesson planning, breaking down of standards and objectives breakdowns, and listening to the voices of my most important stakeholders (students), I prepared engaging lessons with varied instructional methods to respond to various backgrounds and learning needs. For six years, I continued to design and collaborate with others to facilitate learning opportunities inside and outside the traditional classroom as a teacher, club advisor, grade-level chair, dean of instruction, and mentor teacher.

While I'll cherish bringing home daily stories of classroom hijinks and educational wins (big and small), designing instructional materials and other applications is my passion. I'm a full-time master's student in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Texas at Austin. Through my coursework specializing in Learning Technologies, I've had the opportunity to create instructional modules using various learning theories. In addition, I've designed and prototyped an application and educational game and conducted usability testing. Each of these projects has reaffirmed my commitment to instructional and UX design work, and I'm eager to see where this work takes me.  Please find a link to my portfolio below.

Outside of work, I enjoy reading good murder mysteries and solving "whodunnit" before the detectives, finding whatever body of water to swim, paddle board, or boat in to cool off from the Texas heat, and having my number one taste-tester try out my newest recipe.
